What is the Ronan Universe?

The Ronan Universe is a vast science-fiction setting centered on the Rona System, a star with 47 habitable worlds and moons and more than 70 sentient species. Its history is defined by the ancient Lattice Network of portals, which enabled the first expansions across space, and the rise of the Ronan Council, a multispecies government built to hold its civilizations together. Across Portal Epochs, Colonial Cohorts, the Borengi War, and the Yousha Wars, the Ronan Universe tells a story of politics, rebellion, and survival, set against diverse worlds, powerful factions, and the enduring mystery of the portals that connect them.

What is Rona?

Who are the major powers?

Core species include the Raptonians, Terrans, Pez, Dragoons, and Sarn of Rona Prime, alongside neighbors like the Ix, Allorian, Dorians, Oopoona, Issians, and Yanarthi, of Zylar and the moons of the Ronan Star System, each adding distinct cultures and strengths.

These races align under a great political body: the Ronan Council, a multispecies government; the breakaway Ronan Federated Worlds (RFW), formed by colonies seeking independence after the Borengi War; and the Sentinel Accords, an alliance created in the Yousha Wars to safeguard member and neutral systems. Together, these species and powers define the conflicts, alliances, and enduring struggles at the heart of the Ronan Universe.

The Major Races

Raptonians

Raptonians evolved as raptor-like hunters on Rona Prime and built a culture around martial honor, science, and survival. Their society blends tribal traditions with advanced military engineering, producing the feared Typhoon warriors and respected strategists.

Pez

The Pez are large, segmented arthropods with humanoid faces and touch-based telepathy. They live in hive-like communities and serve as ethical memory-keepers and interpreters across the Council. Empathic by nature, they are central to diplomacy and reconciliation.

Shagorian

The Shagorians are an aquatic people from Surras, Zylar’s great ocean moon. They became early navigators of water-linked portals and developed advanced underwater megacities. Their culture is deeply tied to the seas.

Ix

The Ix are insectoid hive-dwellers from Ixian Prime, one of Vexar’s moons. Hyper-capitalist and mathematically gifted, they built vast vertical arcologies and a rigid caste system. Their aggressive commerce and politics make them both indispensable and controversial in Council affairs.

Allorian

Allorians are blue-skinned quadrupeds with two facial eyes and two on stalks, giving them panoramic perception. They excel at wide-field cognition and strategic oversight, making them skilled administrators and diplomats. Their societies prize logic, patience, and consensus-building.

Issian

The Issians are tall, hairless, and marble-skinned, with a matriarchal social order. They are known for discipline, physical strength, and intricate social rituals. In Council life, they are respected as leaders and enforcers of law.

Sarn

The Sarn are immortal artificial intelligences who emerged as self-aware archivists on Rona Prime. They dedicate themselves to preserving interspecies memory and history, often serving as translators and record-keepers. Their presence is both respected and unsettling, as they hold knowledge that spans Epochs.

T'lask

The T’lask are small parasitic beings that bond with hosts through ritual consent, sharing genetic memory. Though feared for their ability to override control, they are ethically bound to mutual partnership. Dyads of host and T’lask often become renowned philosophers, strategists, or archivists.

The Ronan Council

The Ronan Council is the central governing body of the Rona System, representing more than 74 aligned species and worlds. Seated on International Island of Rona Prime, it balances planetary autonomy with strategic oversight of portals, trade, and defense. Its institutions, from the Ronan High Command to the Portal Stewardship Authority, give the Council immense influence, though internal divisions and colonial resistance have long challenged its authority.

Council Law

How to Break a Council Law 🌀
🚫 Broke quarantine with a battleship? = “Emergency intervention.”
🚫 Leaked a portal code? = “Diplomatic necessity.”

From Atoms to Gravity

From splitting the atom to stabilizing portals, this was the Ronan system’s turning point.

Yousha

The Yousha are a hive-mind fungal species that spreads through spores, consuming and assimilating entire ecosystems. They evolve quickly against weapons and defenses, forcing entire civilizations to adapt or perish. Their threat defined five major galactic wars and reshaped the course of the Ronan Universe.

Dhenara Defense Platform

Raptonian warriors stand unaware, locked in their own conversation. But the young Terran girl sees it first, something lurking just behind them.

IDENTIFYING A YOUSHA

This advisory outlines the key indicators of early-stage Yousha infection: unnatural stillness, non-contextual speech and withdrawal.

Professor Elric Harrow

Professor Harrow

Professor Elric Harrow was a Terran scholar from the Second Portal Epoch who specialized in xenosciences and lattice geohistory. He worked under the Royal University of Aves with sponsorship from the Terran city-state of Caedryn and led the Grith-Kal Expedition, a landmark study into Ix culture and biology. He is also remembered as a mentor to the Issian scholar Zirran Tal-Mela, whose portal biogeography work carried on Harrow’s legacy.

Grith-Kal Expedition

The Grith-Kal Expedition revealed the hidden sanctums of the Ix, exposing their closely guarded hatch vaults and raising questions about the ethics of studying such private traditions.

Haloviel Expedition.

The Haloviel Expeditions explored Zylar’s halo-ringed moon, where crystal gardens and auroras drew both scientists and pilgrims seeking to understand its ancient role in portal navigation.

Captain Syla Renn

Captain Syla Renn and crew

Captain Syla Renn. A brilliant, ruthless, and deeply principled sky-lane warlord who brought order to the lawless skies of the Tyrros-Ven corridor. Born in the underbelly of a mining moon and hardened in the scrap markets of Malokh’s moons, Renn would go on to forge the Spiral Current code, a pact among pirate enclaves. With stolen skyships, battered freighters, and fractured loyalties, she built a loose confederation held together by fear and shared purpose.
